5th place for Janica Kostelic

Janica Kostelic, 5th in today's Super-G raced on the Olympic course of the 2006 Winter Games, missed her first Super-G podium of the season by only 1/100 of a second. Yet she was not too disappointed.

Janica would be perfectly pleased with her result if she would not have lost a spot on the podium by such a small margin. “I often missed a better position by only a few hundredths this season, it's too bad, but I don't want to complain,” she said. “This result is ok, I had a smooth run, nothing special, I didn't attack too much. It's nice to get another top-5 result in Super-G within a week, but I felt ready to reach a podium in that specialty too.”

“Anja achieved a great run, this makes the fight for the Overall title very interesting. I'm enjoying to be part of it, it's fun. I'll do my best to challenge Anja and the other favourites until the last race. I'm having a good season so far. As I often said, I don't feel any pressure. My staff is much more nervous than I'm. A year ago, I was not thinking at all about ski racing and about being back at the top. After winning three gold medals at Santa Caterina, what ever happens now in the Overall World Cup is fine for me.”

“It's already exciting to be in good shape, to fight for victories and have a great time. I'm looking forward for the downhill on Saturday. I feel very comfortable in downhill now and I had a strong run here in the first training day. So let's see what will happen!”
