Another
podium finish for Lindsey Kildow
Cortina d'Ampezzo, Jan. 15th - Once
more Lindsey Kildow reached a podium
in a speed event - but the young American
was ready for more. She aims to win
as soon as possible!
I'm happy but I also badly wanted
to win today, she said after
the race. The situation is more
or less the same than yesterday after
the Super-G. My main goal was to keep
the red leader bib. It's really frustrating
for me, because Renate Goetschl has
now the leading bib in both Super-G
and downhill! I also wanted to leave
Cortina with both of them! I definitely
failed. We have to see now - there
are still a couple of races to come,
like tomorrow for example!
I didn't loose my race today
like yesterday because of a precise
big mistake. I basically skied well.
The only thing that I did wrong was
that I made a small inside ski error,
my ski went away from me a few turns
but my line was right on and I skied
the way I wanted to.
Maybe in the final part I kept
my edges a little bit too much and
I didn't let my skis run smoothly
enough.
It's maybe true that I'm a little
bit too hard on myself. But I don't
want to seem like I don't appreciate
what I'm achieving so far. Maybe,
I just have to relax a little bit.
I'll try tomorrow to make a better
race plan. That could make the difference
for me. I hope to be top-3 again,
but my main goal is to win. Yet I
want to be also happy with a 3rd or
a 2nd place.
No one is unbeatable
Janica Kostelic on the podium
in a downhill is a great story. She
has been around for a while. She has
the technical background to do well
in downhill and in Super-G. It's like
Renate Goetschl winning three races
in a row here. She showed that it
was definitely possible, and there
is no reason why I couldn't do exactly
the same in future. I have to clean
some things in my skiing. But she
was obviously on fire right now, and
hopefully, I'll be able to stop her
tomorrow!
No one is unbeatable - you can't
have a perfect run all the time. It
just doesn't happen. You always make
a few mistakes. For me, it's just
a matter of being able to put a run
together. My main goal is to be strong
at the World Championships, and I'm
ready to get there. It's a matter
of time. My ski is there. As long
as I perfectly execute my mental and
race plans, I can't do better.
There are a few things that
I can fix. Like today, my run was
OK but I could have finished with
a 2nd place!
I don't know if winning in downhill
is a matter of being experienced.
Maybe the other girls need a longer
time to get what I was able to reach
in less time. I didn't need all those
years. I already feel pretty comfortable
right now. I'm already feeling ready.
I also have a good race plan that
I'm following with patience and intelligence.
I know what to do and where.
Carpe Diem
Beside this first goal I mentioned
earlier, I want to win the SG and
the DH globes, and I'll be fighting
for them the rest of the season. I'll
not let my place to anyone. I wouldn't
say that it was my goal at the beginning
of the season. I didn't know how consistently
I could be before Lake Louise. But
I know now that I can be a contender.
There are so many things which
happen since last year, and the first
one is that the podium has become
a usual thing now. I'm aiming for
bigger goals. The podium I did last
year here was the starting point of
this whole thing. It's definitely
great to come back here and achieve
the same result. I can't wait to do
even better. I'm on a "Carpe
Diem" year; I definitely have
to enjoy what I'm achieving.
