Women's Super Combined in Crans Montana (SUI) 2008

The last women's super combined is scheduled today. The downhill starts at 10 a.m., the slalom at 1 p.m. CET.

Welcome to the ladies' super combined event in Crans Montana! The downhill will start in about 15 minutes.

Since this is the last race of the season, there will be a crystal ball given out after the competition.



09:57 - Riesch, Maria (GER):

The first aspirant on the title in the super combined World Cup is German Maria Riesch. She won the first race and was 2nd in the second one.



09:58 - Vonn, Lindsey C. (USA):

That's 180 points altogether, and means Riesch has 40 points more than her biggest rival, Lindsey Vonn.



09:59 - Mancuso, Julia (USA):

Julia Mancuso is 3rd and 64 points behind Riesch. She has to hope for a drop-out of the two so she can win the crystal ball.



09:59 - Schild, Marlies (AUT):

Marlies Schild has only a calculatory chance. She is 100 points behind Riesch.

Lindsey Vonn has her strength in the downhill. Riesch instead is stronger in the slalom.

Nicole Hosp and Anja Pärson are also among the favorites on the victory today. They are too far behind in the World Cup though and won't have anything to do with the crystal ball.



10:07 - Lolovic, Jelena (SCG):

39 athletes have signed up for this super combined event - Jelena Lolovic is the first one at the start. 1:39,79 is the time to beat now.



10:08 - Fischbacher, Andrea (AUT):

And it is beaten right away: Andrea Fischbacher shows her downhill strength and is over 3 seconds in front after her run.



10:09 - Maze, Tina (SLO):

Tina Maze's results were an up and down in this season. Now she is not too far behind Fischbacher, it's 0.4 seconds in the finish.



10:10 - Cook, Stacey (USA):

Stacey Cook is far away from the gates, but she is fast. The American has a margin of 0.55 seconds in the finish.



10:18 - Alcott, Chemmy (GBR):

Chemmy Alcott doesn't risk too much - that means a margin of one second in the finish.



10:19 - Marchand-Arvier, Marie (FRA):

Marie Marchant-Arvier is the new leader! The French is off the ideal line once, but still fast enough to set the new best time.



10:20 - Stechert, Gina (GER):

Gina Stechert almost loses her pole right after the start! She attacks afterwards, but due to this mistake she can't catch up enough to take the lead.



10:21 - Brydon, Emily (CAN):

Emily Brydon seems insecure, and her time shows. She is 4th currently.



10:22 - Kirchgasser, Michaela (AUT):

Michaela Kirchgasser is next. Difficulties after a jump - only 6th at the moment.



10:23 - Zahrobska, Sarka (CZE):

Sarka Zahrobska is a slalom specialist, her aim in the downhill is not to lose too much time. She is 2 seconds behind in the finish, that's not too bad.



10:24 - Grand, Rabea (SUI):

Rabea Grand is next. A wild run, she is 1.57 seconds behind Marchand-Arvier.



10:30 - Görgl, Elisabeth (AUT):

Elisabeth Goergl does not show visible mistakes, but she is not fast enough to take the lead.



10:31 - Robnik, Petra (SLO):

Petra Robnik's run was not great, but she will gain World Cup points in this super combined event today.



10:32 - Aubert, Sandrine (FRA):

Sandrine Aubert is 5th in the super combined World Cup ranking. She loses a little more than 2 seconds in this downhill run.



10:33 - Zettel, Kathrin (AUT):

Kathrin Zettel is stronger in the slalom than in the downhill. She loses about 2 seconds here.



10:43 - Hosp, Nicole (AUT):

Nicole Hosp was 27th only yesterday - and she is not fast today either! Hosp is disappointed.



10:44 - Schild, Marlies (AUT):

Marlies Schild does better - she is 1.15 seconds behind. That's no margin for her in a slalom.



10:45 - Mancuso, Julia (USA):

Julia Mancuso is next. Has the course gotten slower? Mancuso is 5th.



10:45 - Vonn, Lindsey C. (USA):

Lindsey Vonn is skiing in her own league. What a run! The American is 2 seconds ahead of Schild.



10:46 - Jacquemod, Ingrid (FRA):

Ingrid Jacquemod has a high speed, but is still behind in the finish. She is 8th at the moment.



10:47 - Pärson, Anja (SWE):

Anja Pärson is next. A good run, she is almost as fast as Vonn! A little mistake in the final section, Pärson is 3rd.



10:48 - Riesch, Maria (GER):

Maria Riesch is half a second behind Vonn already at the first intermediate. 0.92 seconds in the finish - that's a challenge for her in the slalom. She is not quite satisfied with her run.



11:02 - Sponring, Christine (AUT):

Christine Sponring is 15th after an average run.



11:02 - Borsotti, Camilla (ITA):

Camilla Borsotti comes in on position 22.



11:03 - Desforges, Emilie (CAN):

Emilie Desforges enters the finish with a big margin, barely ahead of Borsotti.

Johanna Schnarf does a little better, she is 17th.

So Emily Desforges sets the first time on the course: 56 seconds.

Jessica Pünchera begins well, but loses time in the final section. She is 2nd.



13:09 - Zettel, Kathrin (AUT):

Kathrin Zettel is expected to set the best time now. And she does: 1.75 seconds ahead.



13:10 - Lindell-Vikarby, Jessica (SWE):

Jessica Lindell-Vikarby can't repeat that: She is 1.5 seconds behind in the finish, but still 2nd.



13:10 - Abderhalden, Marianne (SUI):

Marianne Aberhalden shows a good performance. A solid run, she is the new 2nd.



13:12 - Aubert, Sandrine (FRA):

Sandrine Aubert takes over the lead! She is over a second ahead of Zettel.



13:14 - Zahrobska, Sarka (CZE):

Sarka Zahrobska is next, a slalom specialist. No chance on the lead! Zahrobska is 3rd.



13:14 - Stuhec, Ilka (SLO):

Ilka Stuhec comes in 2nd.



13:15 - Grand, Rabea (SUI):

Is that the lead for Rabea Grand? The Swiss was 0.56 seconds ahead of Aubert in the downhill. It's not! Grand is 2nd.



13:18 - Alcott, Chemmy (GBR):

Chemmy Alcott drops behind and is 7th in the finish. Still she will gain some World Cup points.



13:19 - Schnarf, Johanna (ITA):

Johanna Schnarf starts with an advantage of 0.8 seconds. Half of this is gone at the intermediate - she is 4th at the moment.



13:23 - Hosp, Nicole (AUT):

Nicole Hosp has to attack to keep her chances on the overall World Cup. But she loses over a second on Aubert, that is not satisfying for her.



13:23 - Sponring, Christine (AUT):

Christine Sponring finishes her run on the 8th position.

Marlies Schild is probably the best slalom skier in this field of competitors. But she performs weakly here in Kranjska Gora: behind Hosp even!



13:26 - Aufdenblatten, Fränzi (SUI):

Fränzi Aufdenblatten fights, but can't take over the lead.



13:29 - Cook, Stacey (USA):

Stacey Cook can't kick Aubert off the lead either. She is 12th at the moment.



13:30 - Kirchgasser, Michaela (AUT):

This does not seem to be a good day for the Austrians. Michaela Kirchgasser had an advantage of about a second - and all of it is gone at the intermediate already! She is 2nd in the finish.

Tina Maze does not feel at home in the slalom. She is 8th.

Ingrid Jacquemod fights her way down - that's the lead! Two French in front.

Lizzy Goergl has a good rythm, the lead changes again!



13:40 - Mancuso, Julia (USA):

Julia Mancuso loses over 3 seconds and is 18th currently.



13:42 - Brydon, Emily (CAN):

Emily Brydon comes in on the 12th position.



13:43 - Fischbacher, Andrea (AUT):

Drop-out! Andrea Fischbacher can't finisch her run.

Dominique Gisin was 6th after the first run. She is 14th now.



13:45 - Stechert, Gina (GER):

Gina Stechert is on a good run: rank 3 in the finish!



13:46 - Riesch, Maria (GER):

Maria Riesch is next. She has a leap of 0.4 seconds - but that's gone at the intermediate! But she fights, and takes over the lead!



13:48 - Pärson, Anja (SWE):

Anja Pärson is back. A good run in the final section especially: Pärson is the new leader.

Marie Marchand-Arvier is on the course. Her leap was tiny - she loses almost a second on the first part! The French is 14th only in the finish.

Now only Linsey Vonn can change the ranking. She was 0.89 seconds ahead after the first run...

...she performs well and is 3rd in the finish. Victory for Anja Pärson - and the crystal ball goes to Maria Riesch!
