11:01:
At 7.15 p.m. the women will start the downhill in Whistler. Due to the weather forecast the start was moved 30 minutes prior to the originally planned start.
19:07:
Hello and welcome to today's women's downhill in Whistler. In A few minutes the downhill should get underway.
19:08:
Due to the weather forecast the race is a bit earlier now. Later fog and rain is expected so we must hope that we can finish the race.
19:10 - Vonn, Lindsey C. (USA):
The big favorite today is Lindsey Vonn who might win the chrystal globe today if she gets the fourth place or better.
19:11 - Hosp, Nicole (AUT):
The American has dominated the last downhills and wants to take over the lead in the Overall World Cup alone today. Nicole Hosp shouldn't be a contender today so the chances are good for Vonn.
19:11 - Riesch, Maria (GER):
Also Maria Riesch could be a favorite today. She is in third place in the Overall World Cup.
19:12:
All athletes like the Olympic course for 2010 and are looking forward to the race and the Olympics in two years.
19:13 - Janyk, Britt (CAN):
The big home crowd favorite is of course Britt Janyk who grew up here and knows the mountain very well.
19:17 - Meissnitzer, Alexandra (AUT):
First up is Alexandra Meissnitzer, who will retire after this season so for her it is not a dress rehearsal. She sets the first time of the day.
19:19 - Merighetti, Daniela (ITA):
Almost a crash from Merighetti in the midle part and then another critical moment near the finish but she gets to the finish line. She is behind Meissnitzer though.
19:21 - Gisin, Dominique (SUI):
Gisin isn't aggressive enough here so she is behind in the finish. Some minor mistakes from the Swiss and that is the third place.
19:24 - Ruiz Castillo, Caroline (SPA):
Great run by Ruiz Castillo and that is the new leader of the field. She takes all the difficult sections well and is 0,38 seconds behind.
19:25 - Alcott, Chemmy (GBR):
Alcott is a bit sick and that is visible here. She can't go 100% and is already in the top part way behind. She is last at the moment.
19:27 - Fischbacher, Andrea (AUT):
Young Fischbacher is another talent for the Austrians. But today she is not with the best and loses time. In the finish she one seconds behind Ruiz Castillo.
19:30 - Rumpfhuber, Ingrid (AUT):
Good run by Rumpfhuber who is with this time only a bit behind the leader and gets to the third place. She seems to be satisfied with this result.
19:32 - Marchand-Arvier, Marie (FRA):
Also the young French women Marchand-Arvier is satisfied with her second place. She has especially in the lower part a good run and is only 0,26 seconds behind.
19:33 - Aufdenblatten, Fränzi (SUI):
Aufdenblatten is surprised by some bumps and loses time also in the lower part. The Swiss is fifth with this result.
19:36 - Görgl, Elisabeth (AUT):
Great finish by Görgl who is behind in the top part and then has a good line in the lower part. That is the new leader from Austria.
19:37 - Styger, Nadia (SUI):
The weather gets worse and the rain is coming. The TV Break is cancelled already so the race is over quick. Nadja Styger in the meantime skis great and takes over the lead. What a great run by the Swiss.
19:39 - Hosp, Nicole (AUT):
Not the best day from Hosp who is a bit tired from the jetlag and falls behind here. She is in 7th place right now.
19:41 - Schild, Marlies (AUT):
Allrounder Marlies Schild has a great run as she is not a speed specialist. That is the fourth place for her at the moment.
19:44 - Riesch, Maria (GER):
The German Riesch has a great run and skis smoothly towards the finish. But then she crashes and is out. What a bad luck! She could have been the new leader.
19:48 - Brydon, Emily (CAN):
No, that is not the best day for the Canadian Brydon who is way behind and finishes in 9th place only.
19:50 - Mancuso, Julia (USA):
Great run by Mancuso and that is the second place behind Styger who is still in the lead. But now Vonn, the top favorite is at start.
19:51 - Vonn, Lindsey C. (USA):
As expected Vonn skis again in a great fashion and is in the lead but then close to the finish a small mistake and that is the second place. Only 0,01 seconds behind.
19:54 - Vanderbeek, Kelly (CAN):
Another crowd favorite with Vanderbeek but the Canadian has some problems in the top and is fifth in the end. That was a good run.
19:55 - Janyk, Britt (CAN):
Janyk grew up here in Whistler and knows the hill. In the top part she is with the best. But with the finish jump she makes a mistake and loses some time.
19:57 - Jacquemod, Ingrid (FRA):
These are not the conditions for the French as she likes it harder. In the top she is good but then she loses time and finishes in 13th place.
20:00 - Pärson, Anja (SWE):
No, also Paerson has no chance for the lead. She has a decent run though but she can't attack the leader. The Swede is in 5th place for the moment.
20:01 - Götschl, Renate (AUT):
The speed queen Goetschl is 0,3 seconds behind in the top and also in the lower part she can't keep up and is 5th now.
20:03 - Fanchini, Nadia (ITA):
Italian Fanchini is a contender in the future and also today she skis well and is 8th. That was a good run for Fanchini.
20:05 - Maze, Tina (SLO):
Maze won a downhill this season but today there will be no other victory for the Slovenian. Only 23rd place for her.
20:09 - Fanchini, Elena (ITA):
Now the sister of Nadia, we have Elena Fanchini. Can she beat her sister? No, she can't as she is way behind in the end.
20:11 - Styger, Nadia (SUI):
Now the first 30 racers are in the finish and we have still Nadia Styger in the lead. She most likely will win her first Downhill World Cup race.
20:14 - Bent, Nike (SWE):
Nike Bent comes in with a lot of time behind and even crashes after the finish line. She is 31st for now.
20:18 - Styger, Nadia (SUI):
Now the decision is there. Nadia Styger wins ahead of Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso. Only 0,01 seconds was Styger in the end ahead of Vonn.
20:19 - Vonn, Lindsey C. (USA):
With the second place Lindsey Vonn wins the small chrystal globe for the Downhill. Congratulations to Lindsey. She also extends her lead in the Overall World Cup ahead of Nicole Hosp.
20:21:
That was it for today's coverage from Whistler. The next race for the women will be the super combined on Sunday, which will start at 7.45 p.m. Until then!
