The Austrians are at the start with Benni Raich and Mario Matt among others.

Benni Raich fights for the crystal globe and Matt is still motivated by his title from Are.

Jens Byggman who was very successful in Kitzbuehel couldn´t convince at the World Championships in Are. Will the young Swede strike back again today?

But also his team mate Markus Larsson who started into the season fantastically is able to score a good result.

Manfred moelgg makes his way down the slope courageously. He seems to be very motivated. By eight tenths he ranks behind Matt in the finish.

Now Markus Larsson. Already at the beginning he makes a mistake which will make him lose time. Can he catch it up again?

No, he cannot. He is almost two seconds behind Matt. That´s extremely disappoiting for him!

Also his team mate Jens Byggmark has problems with the slope. At the intermediate he is very far behind and crosses the finish line as third.

Raich tries to attack Matt´s time but he doesn´t succeed! He only reaches place three. That was a fabulous performance by Matt!

Ligety skis down the slope in another league. He is more than four seconds behind the leading time. That´s not his day!

Palander is the only one after many athletes who gets close to the great best time. He is rewarded with the second place.
09:42 - Neureuther, Felix (GER):
Now local hero Felix Neureuther is on his way. He attacks any gate and goes a very risky line. But that pays off! He becomes second in the finish, 54 hundredths behind Matt.
09:43 - Grange, Jean-Baptiste (FRA):
Jean-Baptiste Grange cannot repeat his forerunner´s performance. The French drops back on the sixth place.

Thomas Grandi crosses the finish line as eighth now.

Now the next Canadian is on his way. Michael Janyk makes little mistakes but he keeps on fighting and ranks on five, not even a second behind.

Manfred Parnger is the first one who drops out in today´s slalom.

Marc Berthod risks a lot, he attacks the gates and tries to ski close to the poles. That takes him to position five so far. He can be satisfied.

Reinfried Herbst is not content with his result in the finish. His run looked a bit too respectful towards the slope - place twelve for him.
09:51 - Myhrer, Andre (SWE):
Neither Andre Myhrer is able to threaten the best time. He even drops back on 13.
09:53 - Matt, Mario (AUT):
Matt leads ahead of Neureuther and Palander after 15 starters.
09:54 - Svindal, Aksel-Lund (NOR):
Also Aksel Lund Svindal has his problems with the slope. The Norwegian has to accept place 13 so far.

The next Austrian doesn´t see the finish. Rainer Schoenfelder doesn´t even reach the first intermediate.

Now Silvan Zurbriggen crosses the finish line as 18th.

Daniel Albrecht has no chances today, either. With already two seconds behind at the time measurement his deficit becomes even bigger up to the finish. By 2,73 seonds he drops back on 15.

Also Ivica Kostelic suffers a disappointment. He won´t be satisfied with place 17.
10:01 - Sasaki, Akira (JPN):
Akira Sasaki makes a serious mistake in the lower part. He almost misses a gate, gets back and so his deficit in the finish is more than seven sconds.
10:01 - Hansson, Martin (SWE):
With bib 22 Martin Hansson drops out. That´s not the day of the Swedes!
10:05 - Deville, Cristian (ITA):
Cristian Deville has to wait now whether he reaches the final run. But with his 15th place at the moment he should be safe.
10:06 - Vogl, Alois (GER):
Alois Vogl clocks a good time at the intermediate. But unfortunately also the German drops out short after it.

Marc Gini who started behind him reaches the 14th position in the finish.
10:08 - Lizeroux, Julien (FRA):
It looks as if nobody could get close to the best time at the moment. The starters arrive between positions 13 and 18. So does Julien Lizeroux on 16.

His team mate Pierrick Bourgeat clocks as 19th now.

Johan Brolenius. Can he score a good position for Sweden? After all it´s place twelve for him, not the worst place to attack in the final.

The difficult slope takes its toll. Bernard Vajdic can´t make it farther to the front than place 19.

Jimmy Cochran isn´t lucky this time. He is the next one who drops out.

Matt ahead of Neureuther and Palander. The same situation like after the first 15 starters. Now with bib 31 Miller follows.

Will the US-American reach the finish today? He resigned his start yesterday because he had problems with the nape of the neck.

Again Miller suffers a drop out before he passes the intermediate time measurement.

Andersson follows him not seeing the finish, either.

Two of three US athletes haven´t seen the finish. Ligety ranks hopelessly on place 26 so far. He surely won´t qualify for the 30 best skiers who take part in the final.

Gaetan Llorach can be happy about his 13th place now, especially as he started off with a late bib.

German and local hero Felix Neureuther is in a promising position. He finished the first run as second.

The next starter, Naoki Yuasa, is a bit late at the gates and he loses his margin. His too risky style makes him almost miss a gate. That will onmly be place two so far.

One second behind Bourgeat his team mate Missilier crosses the finish line. He lost his leap in the upper part.

Daniel Albrecht fights with the steep part but then he finds his rhythm. Now he lets his skis run. And that´s the new great best time!
13:07 - Vajdic, Bernard (SLO):
Bernard Vajdic is next. He doesn´t go risky enough and drops back by 63 hundredths of a second - place three so far.
13:08 - Deville, Cristian (ITA):
Now the Italian Deville. His performances are constant this winter. He loses in the upper part and catches up in the steep section. That´s the clear lead.
13:10 - Razzoli, Giuliano (ITA):
Now Razzoli skies out! His run was very good up to his drop out.
13:11 - Engl, Kurt (AUT):
Engl´s line doesn´t look good in the upper part. He makes many mistakes and seems nervous. That takes him to place five.
13:13 - Lizeroux, Julien (FRA):
Julien Lizeroux is on his way. He alomst drops out. This mistake is punished immediately. More than place three isn´t possible.
13:14 - Viletta, Sandro (SUI):
It´s his first World Cup start and he is already in the second run. 21 years old Sandro Viletta makes it to the finish although his run isn´t flawless.

He takes over the third position and will gain points.
13:16 - Thaler, Patrick (ITA):
Patrick Thaler isn´t satisfied with his performance. He only clocks as fifths.
13:17 - Koll, Alexander (AUT):
24 years old Alexander Koll makes his way down the Gudiberg. But he loses time, especially in the last flat part - position nine.
13:19 - Myhrer, Andre (SWE):
That´s not one of Andre Myhrer´s best performances. He can´t manage the course on a good line and only arrives on eight in the finish.
13:20 - Gini, Marc (SUI):
Now Marc Gini. He gets rid of his margin in the lower section as well. That´s place seven so far.
13:21 - Dreier, Christoph (AUT):
Neither Christoph Dreier can reach Deville´s best time. He drops back on place eight.
13:23 - Deville, Cristian (ITA):
After 15 athletes Deville leads ahead of Albrecht and Viletta who have already improved by some positions.
13:24 - Svindal, Aksel-Lund (NOR):
For Svindal it´s important to gain World Cup points today. And he sees the finish - as sixth so far.
13:26 - Herbst, Reinfried (AUT):
Reinfried Herbst has lost three tenths in the first section but is still in front. In the finish he has a deficit of 35 hundredths behind the leader and takes over place two.
13:28 - Llorach, Gaëtan (FRA):
Gaetan Llorach attacks. He wants the best time but misses it. Nevertheless also place four is a success so far as he has suffered bad injuries in the past years.
13:29 - Brolenius, Johan (SWE):
What a great time was clocked by Deville! Neither Brolenius can beat him! He enters the finish as second.
13:31 - Larsson, Markus (SWE):
By a hair Markus Larsson beats the Italian´s time now. But by only one hundredth of a second he is in front. He lost a lot of time on the slope.
13:33 - Grandi, Thomas (CAN):
Grandi fights and scores the best time at the time measurement. But problems follow in the lower section. He loses his rhythm and drops back on five.
13:34 - Byggmark, Jens (SWE):
Byggmark sets an acrobatic run on the slope. Sometimes he is short before a drop out. But he stays on his skis and takes his performance to the finish - as fourth.

Larsson ahead of Deville and Brolenius - eight athletes will follow.

Jean-Baptiste Grange has widened his margin. He wants to give a proof of his potential. By almost one second he undercuts the old best time. That´s impressive!
13:38 - Raich, Benjamin (AUT):
And Benni Raich? Can he get in on in the front now? Yes, he does it even better than Grange and is the new leader.
13:40 - Janyk, Michael (CAN):
Janyk has lost his rhythm for a short time. This mistake is punished immediately and he drops back by one tenth on place two.
13:42 - Berthod, Marc (SUI):
Berthod almost explodes on the slope, but too late. He cannot catch up the time he lost in the upper part and must accept place three.
13:44 - Mölgg, Manfred (ITA):
Moelgg drops back on place three after he couldn´t imitate Raich´s strong performance especially in the last part.
13:45 - Palander, Kalle (FIN):
Palander gets stuck for a short moment but he is still in front at the intermediate. Now he must risk anything! Once again Raich´s time is missed. Also Palander takes over place three for the time being.
13:47 - Neureuther, Felix (GER):
What an exciting run is shown by Felix Neureuther now! He almost jumps through the gates in a extremely risky style.

And he manages the course, finds a clean line. That´s the lead and at least place two!

Only Matt can beat him now!
