20:27:
At 11:30 CET on February 24th the men will start the second downhill on Garmischs Kandahar slope. Who will win this time?
11:02:
Welcome to the second downhill on the Kandahar in
Garmisch-Partenkirchen!
11:05 - Jerman, Andrej (SLO):
After yesterday´s sensational victory scored by Andrej Jerman now especially the favorites want a revenge.
11:08 - Miller, Bode (USA):
Miller, Cuche and Buechel couldn´t convince with late bibs on the soft piste yesterday.
11:09 - Cuche, Didier (SUI):
Today they start off late again. We will see what will be possible on the difficult slope this time.
11:11:
Michael Walchhofer resigns a start today. He suffered a bad crash into the safety nettings yesterday.
11:12:
The sun is shining in Garmisch and the conditions are similar to yesterday.
11:13:
So we can once again expect a soft piste which becomes slower in the course of the race and therefore makes it more difficult for the late starters.
11:14 - Keppler, Stephan (GER):
German starter Stephan Keppler is lucky this time. He can start off with bib one. Maybe that´s a decisive advantage for him.
11:16 - Hudec, Jan (CAN):
Among the first ten athletes there are also Worlds medallists Jan Hudec and Patrick Staudacher. Can they show another good performance?
11:19 - Grugger, Hans (AUT):
Hans Grugger was successful with place two yesterday. Today he takes up the competition as 13th.
11:21 - Maier, Hermann (AUT):
His team mate Hermann Maier showed a disappointing performance on the first downhill. He wants to be better now at the second try.
11:24 - Kucera, John (CAN):
As we just get to know John Kucera, Francois Bourque and Bode Miller won´t start today.
11:25:
The first forerunner is on the course, the race will get started in a couple of minutes.
11:30 - Keppler, Stephan (GER):
Stephan Keppler gets ready for the start.
11:32 - Keppler, Stephan (GER):
But a forerunner has fallen and now Keppler has to wait a few moments. The start is delayed a bit.
11:34:
Now Stephan Keppler is on his way.
11:37 - Keppler, Stephan (GER):
The German clocks the first time in 1:59,43.
11:38 - Grünenfelder, Tobias (SUI):
Keppler´s run wasn´t fast. That is proved by Gruenenfelder´s time which is already one second better at the third intermediate. In the finish he leads by approximately two seconds.
11:40 - Macartney, Scott (USA):
Scott Macartney is next. Also he has his problems with the Kandahar. In the finish he clocks the second best time but has lost one second on the leader.
11:42 - Bottollier-Lasquin, Marc (FRA):
Bottelier-Lasquin starts off fast. But in the middle part he loses time and his deficit becomes bigger in the lower section. Although he is more than a second behind he can make it to place two.
11:43 - Hudec, Jan (CAN):
Jan Hudec sets new best times at the intermediates. In the finish he is the new leader by 18 hundredths of a second. The early bib was a clear advantage.
11:46 - Järbyn, Patrik (SWE):
Patrik Jaerbyn doesn´t get along with the piste as well as his forerunner. In the middle part he suffers a fall!
11:46 - Bertrand, Yannick (FRA):
Yannick Bertrand who has started in the meantime can restart again later.
11:50 - Sullivan, Marco (USA):
After Jaerbyn´s crash the race was interrupted. Now a forerunner is on the course before Marco Sullivan will be able to start.
11:56 - Sullivan, Marco (USA):
Marco Sullivan makes his way down the slope now. He cannot threaten the best time after the interruption and makes it to place six so far.
11:58 - Sulzenbacher, Kurt (ITA):
The next one on the Kandahar is Kurt Sulzenbacher. He loses in the middle part but can gain time in the last section. That´s place three so far.
12:00 - Staudacher, Patrick (ITA):
What will Staudacher show us now? In the first part he loses but then he seems to find a clean line and doesn´t drop back anymore. He beats his team mate´s time by one hundredth and scores the third place so far.
12:01 - Buder, Andreas (AUT):
After an average run Andreas Buder makes it to place seven.
12:02 - Kröll, Klaus (AUT):
Another Austrian, Klaus Kroell, has just started off. Will he be able to attack the best time? No, he doesn´t, he is no danger for Hudec - position eight for Kroell.
12:04 - Grugger, Hans (AUT):
Scoring the best time at the intermediate Grugger makes a little mistake. Will he drop back now? Yes, his mistake makes him lose 1,5 seconds and the lead.
12:06 - Gruber, Christoph (AUT):
Gruber finds an excellent line and catches up tenth by tenth. In the finish he is five hundredths in front and exults!
12:07 - Defago, Didier (SUI):
Defago who was good on his way in the upper part, loses in the sliding section and in the ends he is not fast enough and has to accept place four.
12:08 - Gruber, Christoph (AUT):
After 15 starters Gruber is ahead of Hudec and Tobias Gruenenfelder.
12:11 - Dalcin, Pierre-Emmanuel (FRA):
Will that be another strong race by Dalcin? The beginning was good but the middle part causes Dalcin problems. He drops back up to one second and crosses the finish line as seventh.
12:13 - Bertrand, Yannick (FRA):
Now Bertrand is ready for his restart. He didn´t get nervous by the relay and can be satisfied with his time which takes him to the fourth place.
12:15 - Hoffmann, Ambrosi (SUI):
Hoffmann´s run looks a bit insecure in parts. Nevertheless he is fast, a bit too fast maybe because he leaves the clean line a few times. In the end it´s place five for the Swiss.
12:16 - Maier, Hermann (AUT):
Maier´s result is better than yesterday but he won´t be satisfied with his run once more. Arriving on place 13 his ride showed a lack of self-confidence.
12:17 - Nyman, Steven (USA):
Too many big mistakes make Steven Nyman drop back on place 15 in the finish. He is 1,53 seconds behind the leader.
12:20 - Osborne-Paradis, Manuel (CAN):
Manuel Osborne-Paradis tried to ski a different line than his forerunners to avoid the bumpy passages. That pays off. He is only three tenths behind the leader. Unfortunately it´s only enough for place four.
12:21 - Jerman, Andrej (SLO):
Andrej Jerman, yesterday´s winner is on the track now. Again he shows a strong performance right from the start and even becomes better especially in the lower section.
12:22 - Jerman, Andrej (SLO):
That´s once again the lead for the Slovene. Well done!
12:23 - Kernen, Bruno (SUI):
Bruno Kernen goes down with bib 22. He has problems, makes little mistakes and clocks the twelfth best time.
12:25 - Scheiber, Mario (AUT):
Mario Scheiber sets a new best time at the first intermediate. He loses a few hundredths but is still fast on his way. In the lower part he has lost a lot now. In the end it´s place six for the Austrian.
12:27 - Strobl, Fritz (AUT):
Altogether the conditions on the piste seem to be better today. Nevertheless Strobl cannot reach the top ten - place twelve for the Austrian.
12:29 - Guay, Erik (CAN):
Erik Guay seems to love the Kandahar. He is incredible fast and shows us an excellent performance. In the finish he is 50 hundredths in front. Who is now able to defeat yesterday´s third?
12:30 - Svindal, Aksel-Lund (NOR):
Svindal´s run is weaker today. He doesn´t get along well enough to attack the top ten - place 15 for the World Champion.
12:32 - Fill, Peter (ITA):
And Peter Fill? The Italian is none of the candidates for the victory today like his time in the finish proves. 1:58,36 take him to place 13.
12:33 - Büchel, Marco (LIE):
Marco Buechel doesn´t lose a lot but he can make it farther to the front than place seven.
12:33:
Cuche tries anything now. He wants to score his first World Cup victory of the season.
12:35 - Cuche, Didier (SUI):
He cannot reach Guay´s best time but he excults and puts his arms up in the air in the finish bacause he is happy about his third place.
12:36 - Guay, Erik (CAN):
That was a spectacular race! Erik Guay wins ahead of Andrej Jerman and Didier Cuche. Congratulations to all of them!
