08:25:
Today, on Monday January 21th the second women´s Super G in
Cortina (ITA) will take place. It replaces the cancelled competition from
Aspen and starts at 10 o'clock.
09:38:
Good morning and welcome to the women´s second Super G in
Cortina d'Ampezzo!
09:39:
After the weather conditions had made a start on Friday impossible, today the Super G will take place which replaces the cancelled one from
Aspen.
09:41 - Holaus, Maria (AUT):
Yesterday Maria Holaus scored the first World Cup victory of her career. Of course this triumph gives her wings for today´s race!
09:42 - Mancuso, Julia (USA):
Of course also Julia Mancuso belongs to the favorites. She became second in the competition yesterday.
09:44 - Pärson, Anja (SWE):
Super G is extremely exciting this winter. There are many candidates for the victory. Also Anja Paerson has best chances to get in on in the front.
09:47 - Götschl, Renate (AUT):
The Austrian team is very strong these days. Beside Holaus, Nicole Hosp made it to the rostrum yesterday. And one shouldn´t forget Renate Goetschl. She has already celebrated ten victories here.
09:48 - Janyk, Britt (CAN):
Also many Canadian ladies were among the top ten at the weekend. Emily Brydon, Britt Janyk and Kelly Vanderbeek all have the potential to be on top.
09:51 - Vonn, Lindsey C. (USA):
What about Lindsey Vonn? She dominates her competitors in downhill. But in Super G the others are strong, too.
09:52 - Cook, Stacey (USA):
In approximately ten minutes the first women will be on the piste. It´s Stacey Cook from the USA.
09:53 - Riesch, Maria (GER):
For the Germans the weekend wasn´t perfect so far. Maria Riesch couldn´t enter the top five. Can she do better today?
09:58:
The conditions are quite alright today. The piste should be harder than yesterday because it´s earlier in the morning now. The first forerunners are already on their way.
10:00 - Cook, Stacey (USA):
Stacey Cook gets ready for the start. Can she profit by the early bib like Holaus did yesterday?
10:02 - Cook, Stacey (USA):
The US American sets the first time in 1:26,83. That's more than two seconds slower than yesterday.
10:04 - Wilhelm, Kathrin (AUT):
While we get the information that Kathrin Zettel with bib six resigns her start, Kathrin Wilhelm struggles with problems on her way down the piste. She clocks with a deficit of 1,43 seconds on the leader.
10:06 - Stechert, Gina (GER):
Gina Stechert has just begun her run. In the upper part she is fast and undercuts the minimum time. That´s not the best line in the lower section. Place two for the German, two tenths behind Cook.
10:08 - Schild, Marlies (AUT):
What can Marlies Schild show us today? She attacks right from the start and skis very risky even in the difficult passages. That´s the clear lead for the Austrian!
10:10 - Maze, Tina (SLO):
Tina Maze´s beginning is not so good but than she gets more and more speed. At the last intermediate she is in front. Well done. Again we have a new leader!
10:12 - Fanchini, Nadia (ITA):
Nadia Fanchini´s difficulties are obvious in the middle part. Up to the end she loses one tenths after another. In the finish it´s only place five so far.
10:14 - Fischbacher, Andrea (AUT):
Minimum time for Andrea Fischbacher at the intermediates! Now the last section. Does she manage to stay in front? No, she loses in the lower part. But it´s place three.
10:17 - Görgl, Elisabeth (AUT):
Elisabeth Goergl was good in the training sessions. Now she performs well again. Up to the finish she has enlarged her margin constantly and becomes the new leader.
10:19 - Riesch, Maria (GER):
Now German Maria Riesch. She is still a bit behind in the upper part. But she was stronger in the lower section at the weekend. It´s like that again and she storms to the new minimum time. Well done!
10:19 - Styger, Nadia (SUI):
Nadia Styger who started after Riesch was fast on her way but then she dropped out.
10:22 - Holaus, Maria (AUT):
Yesterday´s winner is on the piste with bib 12 now. Maybe she was a bit too motivated by yesterday´s triumph because she drops out as well.
10:24 - Meissnitzer, Alexandra (AUT):
Next one Alexandra Meissnitzer doesn´t get along with the middle part where riesch was very good. There she loses seven tenths. That´s only place seven for the Austrian.
10:26 - Aufdenblatten, Fränzi (SUI):
Almost the same happens to Fraenzi Aufdenblatten. After a good upper section she drops back in the lower part. The Swiss enters the finish on eight.
10:28 - Janyk, Britt (CAN):
Britt Janyk is better on her way. But neither she can threaten Riesch´s minimum time. That´s place three for the Canadian.
10:32 - Schild, Martina (SUI):
How long will Riesch´s best time last? Martina Schild starting off as 16th cannot reach it either. She takes over place eight so far. Now speed queen Renate Goetschl follows.
10:34 - Götschl, Renate (AUT):
Not even the speed queen gets close to the minimum time. She loses some tenths in the lower section like many others. That´s place three for the Austrain for the time being.
10:36 - Mancuso, Julia (USA):
Yesterday´s second Julia Mancuso goes down the piste now. She manages the upper part well but than she gets away from the best line and loses time as well. Place five for the US-American in the finish.
10:38 - Pärson, Anja (SWE):
Although she is in front by two tenths at the first intermediate Anja Paerson doesn´t manage to keep her rhythm up to the finish. On position nine the Swede is one second behind.
10:40 - Brydon, Emily (CAN):
Can Emily Brydon repeat the great result of the weekend? Not today. For the time being she clocks as ninth.
10:41 - Hosp, Nicole (AUT):
That´s not Nicole Hosp´s day. Before she reaches the first intermediate the Austrian drops out. That´s bad luck!
10:44 - Vonn, Lindsey C. (USA):
Now it´s getting exciting. Lindsey Vonn is on her way. She might be someone to threaten the minimum time. But no, the time in the finish makes it obvious. She also drops back. That´s place four for the US-American.
10:48 - Lindell-Vikarby, Jessica (SWE):
With bib 23 we see Jessica Lindell-Vickarby now. It´s the same with her. Little mistakes in the lower part make her miss a better time. Only position 17 for the Swede.
10:50 - Ruiz Castillo, Caroline (SPA):
The upper section works perfect for the Spaniard. But Carolina Ruiz Castillo cannot go on like that. In the middle and lower part she makes too many mistakes and drops back on 17.
10:52 - Berger, Silvia (AUT):
Silvia Berger tries her luck now. But that won´t be a best time, either. She is too far away from the gates to threaten a top ten time. Place 19 for the Austrian.
10:54 - Suter, Fabienne (SUI):
Who is left to attack Riesch´s minimum time? Perhaps Kelly Vanderbeek with bib 27? But first we will see Fabienne Suter. She performs very well and is rewarded with place eight.
10:56 - Vanderbeek, Kelly (CAN):
No, Kelly Vanderbeek is no candidate for the victory today as she struggles with the Tofana too much. By one second behind the leader she clocks as 13th.
10:58 - Ludlow, Libby (USA):
US-American Libby Ludlow doesn´t reach the finish.
11:00 - Jacquemod, Ingrid (FRA):
One of the last starters among the top 30 is on her way now. Ingrid Jacquemod cannot go fast enough to get in on in the front. But it has to be mentioned that the conditions on the slope have become more difficult in the course of the race.
11:02 - Ceccarelli, Daniela (ITA):
Also the last starter Daniela Ceccarelli from Italy doesn´t finish this Super G.
11:03 - Riesch, Maria (GER):
So it should be obvious that Maria Riesch has won a further World Cup race this winter. Elisabeth Goergl becomes second ahead of her team mate Renate Goetschl.
11:09:
The starters beyond the top 30 starters won´t be able to change the order on the podium anymore.
11:09 - Riesch, Maria (GER):
So we congratulate Maria Riesch to her victory.
11:10 - Görgl, Elisabeth (AUT):
Elisabeth Goergl can be happy about her second place in the speed discipline.
11:11 - Götschl, Renate (AUT):
Also Renate Goetschl will be satisfied that she has reached the podium at least one time on her favourite course.
11:12 - Vonn, Lindsey C. (USA):
Lindsey Vonn becomes forth ahead of Britt Janyk and Julia Mancuso.
11:12:
That was our coverage on the second super G in
Cortina.
11:15:
The next women´s race will take place on January 26th at 10:30 am. It´s the giant slalom in
Ofterschwang (GER). Until then!
