08:56:
This season's second super G in
St. Moritz will start at 12.00 CET. We had a surprise winner in yesterday's downhill - what will happen today?
12:03:
Welcome to the ladies' Super G in
St. Moritz!
12:05 - Sponring, Christine (AUT):
The first starter today is Christine Sponring. She is a little too late in the early curves, and too far off the line in the final section. That'll cost time.
12:07 - Holaus, Maria (AUT):
Maria Holaus is next. She was 2nd yesterday and hopes for a similar result today. After a big mistake in the first part, this won't be possible though. Still she takes over the lead.
12:08 - Suter, Fabienne (SUI):
Fabienne Suter manages the first part well, but is having slight difficulties then. She is half a second behind in the finish.
12:09 - Vanderbeek, Kelly (CAN):
Like Holaus and Sponring, Kelly Vanderbeek isn't skiing without mistakes in the upper part. She is close to the gates in the middle part though and takes over the lead in the finish.
12:11 - Fanchini, Nadia (ITA):
Nadia Fanchini does not make any visible mistakes, but she is a little slower than Vanderbeek in the upper part. Her margin grows and grows - and Fanchini is 5th.
12:12 - Ludlow, Libby (USA):
Yesterday Libby Ludlow droped out after having a great intermediate time. Her run today isn't optimal either: 5th position.
12:15 - Berger, Silvia (AUT):
Silvia Berger is almost carried off the course in a curve! She manages to stay in the race and comes in 5th.
12:17 - Maze, Tina (SLO):
Tina Maze was the surprise winner yesterday. She is full of confidence now and proves this with a new best time in the upper section. But her speed is lower than Vanderbeek's in the final part - Maze is 3rd.
12:18 - Fischbacher, Andrea (AUT):
Andrea Fischbacher is the new leader! Her run isn't free of mistakes either, she almost dropped out in the middle part. In the finish she is 0.06 seconds ahead.
12:21 - Görgl, Elisabeth (AUT):
Lizzy Goergl, too, almost misses a gate, similar to Berger! She stays on the course though, and she is fast! Goergl takes over the lead.
12:22 - Styger, Nadia (SUI):
Nadia Styger tries a rather defensive approach. Not enough speed though for a top result: Styger is 4th currently.
12:25 - Brydon, Emily (CAN):
Emily Brydon is on a clear line in the upper part, but she is no danger for Goergl there. But then she speeds up - and takes over the lead! The Canadian is 0.25 seconds ahead.
12:26 - Meissnitzer, Alexandra (AUT):
Alexandra Meissnitzer is ahead at the first intermediate, but then she loses about a second of time. The Austrian "oldie" is 5th in the finish.
12:29 - Aufdenblatten, Fränzi (SUI):
Fränzi Aufdenblatten is fast in the upper part, and skies a good line down the hill. Still she loses almost a second on Goergl and is 9th in the finish.
12:30 - Schild, Martina (SUI):
Martina Schild was ahead at the first time measurement when she started losing time on Goergl. 0.86 seconds in the finish, that's currently the 6th position.
12:34 - Riesch, Maria (GER):
Maria Riesch is leading the Super G World Cup ranking. She won't extend her leap in the ranking today though - Riesch reaches the finish on the 3rd position.
12:38 - Janyk, Britt (CAN):
Britt Janyk doesn't attack enough today. Not a bad run, but Janyk is no danger for her teammate Brydon. She is 9th.
12:39 - Hosp, Nicole (AUT):
Nicole Hosp performs well, especially in the first and middle section. Brydon though, was particularly strong in the final part, and that's where Hosp loses time. The Austrian is 3rd.
12:44 - Mancuso, Julia (USA):
A surprise: Julia Mancuso is behind Brydon at the first intermediate. She can't catch up on the remaining course either - and is 18th only in the finish!
12:45 - Götschl, Renate (AUT):
"Speed Queen" Renate Goetschl begins very well: 0.44 seconds faster than Brydon! But the Canadian was too strong in the final section. Goetschl is 3rd.
12:46 - Vonn, Lindsey C. (USA):
Lindsey Vonn is one of the top favorites today. Similar to Goetschl, she is fast in the upper section. And similar to Goetschl, she is no danger for Emily Brydon: 4th position.
12:47 - Pärson, Anja (SWE):
Anja Paerson likes this hill. After a good beginning she loses time though - and is 9th only in the finish.
12:54 - Ceccarelli, Daniela (ITA):
Daniela Ceccarelli was Olympic Champion in 2002. She is fighting hard to stay on the ideal line in the middle part, and her speed is low. She is 21st only in the finish.
12:55 - Lindell-Vikarby, Jessica (SWE):
Jessica Lindell-Vikarby shows a good beginning, but then she is too aggressive in the middle section. It's the 22nd position for her currently.
12:56 - Schild, Marlies (AUT):
Super G is not Marlies Schild's discipline, as she shows in this run. She is lucky even, almost loses balance at the Rominger jump.
12:57 - Stechert, Gina (GER):
Gina Stechert loses a lot of time in the upper section already. She finishes on the 22nd position.
12:59 - Jacquemod, Ingrid (FRA):
Ingrid Jacquemod is next. The French is far behind in the finish: It's rank 27 for her, 2 seconds behind Brydon.
13:01 - Cook, Stacey (USA):
Stacey Cook is no danger for Emily Brydon either. The American has difficulties in keeping the ideal line and position and is 23rd in the finish.
13:03 - Zahrobska, Sarka (CZE):
Sarka Zahrobska is specialized on the technical disciplines. She comes in on the 27th position, 1.9 seconds behind Brydon.
13:04 - Ruiz Castillo, Caroline (SPA):
Caroline Ruiz Castillo completes the top 30 racers in the World Cup. A good run in the first part, she is only 0.08 seconds behind there! The middle part is good, too, but then she loses time in the final section. The Spaniard is 25th.
13:12 - Gut, Lara (SUI):
Lara Gut - another sensation yesterday. Despite a fall (!) she was 3rd in yesterday's competition. A great run now, too - the Swiss is 5th!
13:17 - Brydon, Emily (CAN):
Emily Brydon wins her first Super G in
St. Moritz, congratulations! Elisabeth Goergl is 2nd, Renate Goetschl 3rd.
13:18:
The ladies are now travelling to Sestriere (ITA), where they will ski a Downhill and a Super G on February 9th and 10th. See you then!
