Men' s Giant Slalom of Kranjska Gora (SLO) is on saturday, the 8th march. First run will start at 10:00 a.m.

Hello and welcome to the men's giant slalom in Kranjska Gora. This is the last giant slalom before the World Cup finals in Bormio.



09:53:

The Giant Slalom World Cup is still up for grabs. Four athletes still have a chance to win the small crystal globe.



09:54 - Raich, Benjamin (AUT):

Raich is leading the standings and needs a good result here. Also Ligety, Moelgg and Albrecht could win the globe.



09:55 - Miller, Bode (USA):

In the Overall World Cup, Bode Miller is leading the way and has the best chances to win it this year for the second time. But in giant slalom and slalom Raich might be able to come closer.



10:00 - Raich, Benjamin (AUT):

First up we have Benjamin Raich who will have the best course conditions of course. We will see if he can take advantage of that.



10:02 - Raich, Benjamin (AUT):

Raich sets the first time with 01.13.01. Let's see what this is worth at the end of the first run.



10:05 - Blardone, Massimiliano (ITA):

Behind Raich we have Blardone who skis way batter than the Austrian and is also faster.



10:07 - Ligety, Ted (USA):

Ligety is a bit faster in the top part but then falls behind Blardone and is second. Still the American is faster than Raich.



10:07 - Mölgg, Manfred (ITA):

It's a close race. Manfred Moelgg from Italy is only 0,06 seconds behind Blardone at the moment.



10:09 - Reichelt, Hannes (AUT):

A bit slower is Hannes Reichelt from Austria. He is in the end 0,71 seconds behind the leader. That is only the fifth place at the moment.



10:10 - Albrecht, Daniel (SUI):

A big mistake from Albrecht in the lower section and therefore he is way behind in the end. That is the 6th place for the Swiss.



10:12 - Cuche, Didier (SUI):

Now we see another Swiss racer with Cuche who needs a good result for the Overall World Cup. In the first intermediate he is already 0,78 seconds behind. In the end he is more than a second behind.



10:17 - Simoncelli, Davide (ITA):

Didier Defago and Davide Smoncelli don't have their best days so far and are way behind in the end. They need a great final run to get a decent result here.



10:18 - Berthod, Marc (SUI):

Also Marc Berthod has some problems with the course. He is only in 9th position after this run.



10:20 - Kucera, John (CAN):

Right now nobody comes even close to the best time. So does John Kucera who is 1,72 seconds behind in the finish.



10:22 - Miller, Bode (USA):

Very bad run by Bode Miller now. He has a lot of mistakes and has to fight to stay in the course a few times. That is only the 12th place so far and he will fall behind a lot of spots.



10:25 - Matt, Mario (AUT):

Christoph Gruber can't finish the race. His teammate Mario Matt has a decent run and is 11th. That is a good result for the slalom champ.



10:26 - Görgl, Stephan (AUT):

Goergl has a good intermediate time but then he has some problems and loses a lot of time.



10:28 - Bourque, Francois (CAN):

Also Bourque has not his best day in the lower section. He is even slower than Matt and is 14th right now.



10:33 - Schönfelder, Rainer (AUT):

Rainer Schönfelder has a great intermediate time but then skis out. He is disappointed of course because this might have been a good result for him.



10:34 - Maier, Hermann (AUT):

Also Maier has no chance here and is 2,60 seconds behind. The Austrian shakes his head and cant believe it.



10:37 - Sandell, Marcus (FIN):

Peter Fill and Marcus Sandell now have really bad runs and have to hope that they will qualify for the final run.



10:39:

Not the athletes have all a lot of deficit and are at the end of the field. The slope might not be in the position to give the athletes now the chance for a good result.



10:42 - Chenal, Joel (FRA):

More than three seconds is now Chenal behind. The French is in 20th place right now.



10:43 - Richard, Cyprien (FRA):

Great run by Richard from France. He has the best time since a long time and is 12th. That was a great race from him.



10:45 - Roy, Jean-Philippe (CAN):

Canadian Roy is only 0,69 seconds behind at the first intermediate time. Then also he makes a big mistake and is only 24th.



10:47 - Janka, Carlo (SUI):

Janka had a great run last week but here he needs a perfect final run to make it. He is now 16th.



10:53 - Schlopy, Erik (USA):

American Schlopy gets to the top 20 now and is 3,26 seconds behind. Also Cochran, the racer behind Schlopy, has problems. He won't make it to the final run.



10:55 - Blardone, Massimiliano (ITA):

That should do it for the first run. We have Blardone in the lead ahead of Moelgg. Third is Ted Ligety.

Welcome back to the final run in Kranjska Gora. In a few minutes we will start with the last run today.



13:01 - Gufler, Michael (ITA):

The Italian Gufler is first up in the final run and was 30th after the first run.



13:04 - Gufler, Michael (ITA):

Gufler is in the finish but that was not a great run by him.



13:05 - Chenal, Joel (FRA):

Chenal is way better on his way and is faster than Gufler. The French is in the lead now.



13:10 - Schieppati, Alberto (ITA):

Bad mistakes by Schieppatti and he falls way behind now.



13:11 - Grange, Jean-Baptiste (FRA):

Slalom specialist Grange in in third place now after a decent run.



13:13 - Sandell, Marcus (FIN):

Sandell loses a lot of time already in the top part and falls behind. That was not a good run by him.



13:19 - Covili, Frederic (FRA):

Covili gets to the finish now and sets a new best time.



13:21 - Larsson, Markus (SWE):

Behind him Larsson from Sweden loses a lot of time and also in the middle part he is behind.



13:22 - Schlopy, Erik (USA):

Also Schlopy has some problems and is behind. What can his teammate Miller do now?



13:23 - Miller, Bode (USA):

Miller needs a good run in order to get some points and he does just that and gets to the top with a great run. How many spots can Miller make up? We will see...



13:23 - Maier, Hermann (AUT):

Maier can't keep up with Miller and falls behind. Fifth place for the Austrian for the moment.



13:25 - Kostelic, Ivica (CRO):

Kostelic shows a decent run and he is really on a roll at the moment. He is even ahead of Maier for the moment.



13:26 - Janka, Carlo (SUI):

In the lower part Janka makes a mistake and therefore he falls behind at the end. Still a good place for the Swiss again.



13:28 - Bourque, Francois (CAN):

Bourque also has some mistakes and this is not enough for the lead. The Canadian sits in 11th place right now only.



13:31 - Görgl, Stephan (AUT):

Also Goergl loses a lot of time and falls behing. The Austrian surely hoped for more.



13:32 - Defago, Didier (SUI):

Close race between Defago and Miller now. But in the end the Swiss in only 0,02 seconds behind Miller and is second.



13:33 - Matt, Mario (AUT):

After Richard, who is first, we have Matt from Austria. And that is a great run by the Austrian and the first place for him.



13:35 - Kucera, John (CAN):

Kucera doesn't have a good run now in the final and falls behind. He is 0,76 seconds behind Matt in the end.



13:36 - Berthod, Marc (SUI):

Next up is Marc Berthod. The Swiss attacks fully and gets to the first place now. That was a great run by Berthod and he is the new leader.



13:38 - Simoncelli, Davide (ITA):

Simoncelli is as fast as Berthod in the top but then he falls behind and that is the second place for the Italian.



13:41 - Albrecht, Daniel (SUI):

Albrecht loses time in the steep part and falls behind his teammate Berthod. Only place five now for for Albrecht.



13:43 - Cuche, Didier (SUI):

Didier Cuche now with a good run and he sets the new best time and will collect a few points for the Overall World Cup. That was a good run.



13:44 - Reichelt, Hannes (AUT):

Raichelt risks too much and skis out in the middle part. He slides away and is out.



13:46 - Raich, Benjamin (AUT):

Benjamin Raich needs a great result and he gets it and stays ahead of Cuche with a decent run. But this might not be enough for the win.



13:47 - Ligety, Ted (USA):

Ligety is even better now and places himself in the first position. Maybe this is the win.



13:49 - Mölgg, Manfred (ITA):

Now we have two Italians left. Moelgg has a small mistake and therefore this is not the best time in the end. Still Moelgg is second and has another podium under his belt.



13:51 - Blardone, Massimiliano (ITA):

Ligety wins! Blardone can't beat the time of the American as he loses time in the steep part. Another mistake in the finish and that is the third place.



13:52 - Ligety, Ted (USA):

So Ligety wins ahead of Moelgg and Blardone. Congratulations to the American!
