13:44:
With the Super G, another speed event is on the agenda in
Lake Louise. We will start the live coverage at 19.30 CET. Until then!
19:09:
Welcome to
Lake Louise, where a men's Super G race is scheduled for 7.30 p.m. (CET)!
19:11:
Yesterday's downhill competition was influenced by heavy wind, let's hope that we'll have fair conditions today along the course.
19:11:
Lots of top athletes suffered from yesterday's weather conditions and couldn't show their full potential. Today there's a new chance for everyone.
19:14 - Miller, Bode (USA):
Who is the best Super G skier in this new World Cup period? Last year, Bode Miller took home the crystal ball, after 5 races only.
19:15:
It's not going to be easy to defend this title: The Austrian team is strong, although they are still waiting for the men's first victory this year...
19:17 - Walchhofer, Michael (AUT):
Michael Walchhofer, Mario Scheiber, Andreas Buder, and not to forget Hermann Maier - there are lots of Austrian athletes ready for a top result.
19:18 - Hudec, Jan (CAN):
Everything is possible for the Canadians as well: Yesterday's victory showed Jan Hudec in excellent shape - why not repeat this in the Super G?
19:19 - Svindal, Aksel Lund (NOR):
And then there is Aksel-Lund Svindal: The Norwegian has always been a strong Super G racer. He and Benni Raich are the hottest candidates for the overall World Cup ranking.
19:20 - Fill, Peter (ITA):
Peter Fill is holding the Italian hopes up. Last year he performed well on the
Lake Louise course. How is his shape today?
19:21:
The forerunners are checking the course already, in about 10 minutes we will see the first competitor.
19:31 - Zurbriggen, Silvan (SUI):
Silvan Zurbriggen is the first competitor today. It cold, -10 degrees, and windy again, but not as stormy as yesterday.
19:32 - Zurbriggen, Silvan (SUI):
1:30.95, that's the first time in the finish. We'll soon see what it's worth.
19:34 - Girardi, Walter (ITA):
Next is Walter Girardi from Italy. A good beginning, he is ahead at the first intermediate. But then a bit too aggressive in the Fallaway - Zurbriggen stays in front.
19:37 - Görgl, Stephan (AUT):
Stephan Goergl is the first of eleven Austrians today. A strong performance in the first part, he's over half a second ahead! Goergl slips a bit in the Fallaway, but compensates well. That's the new leader!
19:39 - Nyman, Steven (USA):
Steven Nyman is on the course. Insecurities and minor difficulties in the middle part, but then he speeds up again! It's not enough to take over the lead, but Nyman is only 0.08 seconds behind in the finish, 2nd position.
19:40 - Keppler, Stephan (GER):
Stephan Keppler, too, is having problems in the middle part. But like Nyman, he skies a strong final part, that's where his downhill qualities come through. 3rd in the finish.
19:42 - Innerhofer, Christof (ITA):
Christof Innerhofer is next. A high top speed, 118.6 km/h! He races down the final downhill section of the race, and takes over the lead! The Italian is 0.03 seconds ahead in the finish.
19:44 - Hoffmann, Ambrosi (SUI):
Ambrosi Hoffmann begins furiously, 0.3 seconds ahead at the first intermediate! Can the Swiss keep this leap up? He is still ahead after the Fallaway, and he is the new leader in the finish! An impressive run, he is 0.34 seconds ahead of Innerhofer.
19:46 - Guay, Erik (CAN):
It is getting loud on the course, Erik Guay is next. The local hero begins well, only a tiny margin at the first intermediate. The Fallaway section was not ideal, he loses a bit of time there. But then the downhill part, Guay is strong there! 119.4 km/h top speed, Guay is 0.05 seconds ahead in the finish! The crowd is cheering for him.
19:49 - Raich, Benjamin (AUT):
Benni Raich is getting better and better in the speed disciplines. And he proves it here, too! Over half a second ahead of Guay after the Fallaway, impressive! He loses time in the downhill section, but it is still enough to take over the lead.
19:50 - Bourque, Francois (CAN):
Another Canadian, and it is getting loud again. Francois Bourque is too far away from the gates in the Fallaway, that costs time. 8th position for him.
19:53 - Staudacher, Patrick (ITA):
Super G World Champion Patrick Staudacher is on the course. His coach set this course. Half a second behind at the first intermediate already, and his margin grows. He is a second behind in the finish.
19:55 - Fill, Peter (ITA):
The next Italian, Peter Fill. Slower than Raich in the beginning, Fill, too, loses quite some time in the Fallaway. 1.25 seconds in the finish, that's the 10th position currently.
19:56 - Streitberger, Georg (AUT):
Georg Streitberger with a good run in the first part, he isn't far behind Raich there. Now the Fallaway, he loses about one second there! Streitberger is 7th in the finish.
20:00 - Defago, Didier (SUI):
Didier Defago risks a lot in the downhill part, and it pays off: he halves his margin and is about half a second behind in the finish, that's the 4th position.
20:02 - Büchel, Marco (LIE):
Drop-out! Marco Büchel hits a ripple and can barely avoid a fall. He misses a gate though and can't continue the race.
20:04 - Scheiber, Mario (AUT):
Next is Mario Scheiber. The Austrian begins well, is about 0.2 seconds ahead after the first part. Too aggressive in the Fallaway though, that cost time. Scheiber is 8th in the finish.
20:05 - Svindal, Aksel Lund (NOR):
Aksel Lund Svindal is chasing Raich now. He is behind at the first intermediate, 0.21 seconds. Can he still take the lead?
20:06 - Svindal, Aksel Lund (NOR):
An excellent Fallaway, and he equals Raichs top speed! Now he's in the downhill part, and he is fast! 0.44 seconds ahead in the finish, we have a new leader!
20:10 - Maier, Hermann (AUT):
Hermann Maier attacks in the first part, he is close to Svindal there. His Fallaway is far from optimal though - it's the 10th position in the finish. That's not what he was hoping for.
20:11 - Miller, Bode (USA):
Bode Miller, risky as always. No major mistakes, but his margin grows and grows. It's the 16th position only in the finish.
20:12 - Kucera, John (CAN):
His victory last year in
Lake Louise was a little sensation. What can John Kucera show now?
20:13 - Kucera, John (CAN):
His run is not as sensational as last year. A strong run in the final downhill section, but his margin was too big before already. Kucera is 5th in the finish.
20:15 - Gruber, Christoph (AUT):
Christoph Gruber attacks - and is ahead of Svindal at the first intermediate. Good performance in the Fallaway, too, but still he loses time there. It's the 7th position for him currently.
20:18 - Cuche, Didier (SUI):
The Swiss begins well, is ahead at the first intermediate. A good run through the Fallaway, too, but he loses some time there. Then he loses his pole shortly before the finish - 0.4 seconds behind Svindal. Cuche is 3rd currently.
20:21 - Walchhofer, Michael (AUT):
A good start for Michael Walchhofer, 0.15 seconds ahead after the first part. But in the steeper section he is having difficulties. A good top speed, but Walchhofer still is 1.7 seconds behind Svindal in the finish. That's the 20th position for the Austrian.
20:24 - Reichelt, Hannes (AUT):
Hannes Reichelt risks a lot in the Fallaway, but it doesn't pay off. The Austrian is 18th in the finish.
20:26 - Macartney, Scott (USA):
Scott Macartney with a good run in the first part, but a little mistake slows him down then. His margin grows, he is 14th in the finish.
20:28 - Hudec, Jan (CAN):
Yesterday's winner now, Jan Hudec. Cheered by the crowds, he begins furiously and is 0.3 seconds ahead of Svindal at the first intermediate.
20:30 - Hudec, Jan (CAN):
A few minor mistakes in the Fallaway, all of his leap lost! Hudec is 7th in the finish, still an excellent result for yesterdays surprise winner!
20:34 - Jerman, Andrej (SLO):
Andrej Jerman is fast in the first part, he's close to Svindal there! Good in the Fallaway too, he doesn't lose too much time there. He can't take over the leap, but is 4th in the finish with a margin of about 0.6 seconds.
20:38 - Dalcin, Pierre-Emmanuel (FRA):
The first 30 athletes have completed their race, was that the victory for Svindal already? Dalcin is no danger for him, he comes in on the 23rd position.
20:39 - Deneriaz, Antoine (FRA):
Antoine Deneriaz had a really bad season 2006/2007. What's his shape like today? 31st position in the finish, that's the last position so far.
20:42 - Svindal, Aksel Lund (NOR):
It should be safe: Aksel Lund Svindal wins the Super G in
Lake Louise, ahead of Benni Raich and Didier Cuche. It's his second victory in this season already, congratulations!
20:46 - Brand, Olivier (SUI):
Olivier Brand drops out. He hits a pole, tears it out even. Brand is in pain - but luckily it's no serious injury.
20:52 - Struger, Peter (AUT):
No World Cup points today for Peter Struger. Niklas Rainer, started right after him, reaches the 30th position.
20:53 - Svindal, Aksel Lund (NOR):
Aksel Lund Svindal is the winner of the Super G World Cup race in
Lake Louise. That's another 100 points for the Norwegian, who takes over the lead in the overall World Cup ranking.
20:55 - Raich, Benjamin (AUT):
The 2nd position is an excellent result for the Austrian Benni Raich, who provides the Austrian men with their best Super G result so far in this winter. Didier Cuche is 3rd.

Lake Louise, Canada. The next men's race will be next Thursday, November 29th, in
