After experiencing some problems with snow and weather, Maribor hopes to host two technical World Cup events in 2008 again. The World Cup Tour shows up in January.
We will of course report both races via our live ticker.
Looking back on Maribor: Schild wins in 2006 slalom
2007 Maribor had a lack of snow - the location had to be changed and so Kranjska Gora hosted the women´s giant slalom and slalom. The GS 2006 had to be canceled as well. So the last race on this slope was a slalom in 2006. At that time Marlies Schild won her third consecutive World Cup despite a backache caused in the slalom in Zagreb. This was her seventh world cup triumph since the finals in Sestriere in 2004. Just a few tenths of a second behind the Austrian Janica Kostelic reached the finish. Therese Borssen from Sweden became third and was on podium for the first time in her carreer.
Maribor: Perfect for skiing
On the main ridge of the Pohorje Hills, in an endless sea of forests there are many attractive tourist centres: Mariborsko Pohorje, Ribniško Pohorje and Kope that offer a variety of sport activities in winter and summer. Though the tourist offer is enormous, Pohorje preserved its natural beauty, numerous botanical and cultural places of interest, as well as ethnological peculiarities.
Skiers of all ages and skill levels simply adore Mariborsko Pohorje. Sparkling white ski slopes as well as well-kept cross-country ski runs and trekking routes attract many enthusiastic alpine skiers, cross-country skiers, snowboarders, hikers, mountain bikers, parachutists, horse back riders and adventurers.
Ski center Mariborsko Pohorje
The ski centre Mariborsko Pohorje offers more than 40 km of well-kept slopes for all kinds of skiers, be it a beginner or an expert skier. The slopes range from 325 m to 1327 metres above the sea level. The Pohorje ridges offer 36 km of cross-country ski runs.
The slopes are connected by 4 chairlifts, 16 ski-lifts and by a gondola. You can reach the gondola by city bus. If you buy a multi-day ski pass on Mariborsko Pohorje, you can use it in the ski centres Kope, Ribniško Pohorje and in Kranjska Gora.
You may also like to visit the opera or theatre. If you decide to try your luck in the casino or to visit one of the numerous cafés, your stay in Maribor will perhaps be even more pleasant.
