A few hours after seing her brother Manfred clinching the Crystal globe in slalom, Manuela Moelgg missed by only 7/100 of a second her first World Cup win in giant slalom at
Bormio where Austria's Elisabeth Goergl celebrated her second season's victory.
It was the third podium finish for the Italian in that specialty which helped her to move up in 3rd place in the World Cup standings - a great satisfaction for the 25-year-old champion who clocked the second best time in the second leg.
"I was also aiming for a great result today, I was very motivated after seeing Manfred doing so well in the slalom," she said. "I am very proud to be on the podium here in front of so many fans. For a moment I was even hoping to win that race - I was charging hard and gave my best until the last gate. I suffered a bad infection this week so I didn't feel as strong and confident as usual. I had to stay in my room to recover from high fever. Now I'm feeling better but still not in my best shape. So this result is really encouraging."
"I'm a little disappointed with my slalom, but I'll work hard to get back my form in that specialty. My 2nd place today is helping me to pass the limit of 400 points so I can start after the first
seed next winter. I'm looking forward now for the great celebration party that will take place at home with hour fanclub which supported us so much in past years. It'll be very nice too."
