Women's and Men´s World Cup on the Reiteralm 2007

Like past year the Reiteralm will be the setting for a World Cup race which should have taken place in another place. This year Finnish Levi suffered from bad weather conditions. That´s why the two slalom competitions on November 10th and November 11th will get started in Austria now.

Schedule for the Reiteralm
Saturday, November 10th : Women´s slalom at 10 a.m.
Sunday, November 11th: Men´s slalom at 10 a.m.

2006 in retrospect
The Reiteralm has played host to the World Cup twice. In December 1978 Swede Ingemar Stenmark won the giant slalom ahead of Swiss Peter Luscher and Leonardo David from Italy. Last year the Austrian ladies gave a proof of their strength. In the Super Combined Marlies Schild, Michaela Kirchgasser and Kathrin Zettel occupied all three positions on the podium. Also in Super G seven Austrian skiers ranked among the top eight. Only Martina Schild (SUI) was a serious competitor then and finished on three. At the men´s race it was a bit more balanced. In Super Combined Ivica Kostelic (CRO) won ahead of Romed Baumann (AUT) and Pierrick Bourgeat (FRA).

Facts on the Reiteralm
The alpine men will complete their race on the World Cup slope Gasselhoehe. While the finish area is situated on 1.365 metres, the slalom race is started at a height of 1.565 metres.

Reiteralm for the ski tourists
The Reiteralm near the World Cup village Schladming where the famous night slalom will take place on January 30th 2008 is one of the most famous skiing areas in the Austrian Alps including 175 kilometres of piste, 81 ropeways and Schladming´s 4-mountains-ski-swing. Also the alpine athletes like the region very much because they use the well prepared pistes for training quite often.
But the long downhill slopes don´t only attract top ski racers but also many hobby skiers. Beginners and advanced skiers profit from the manifold offer. After a long day on the pistes the tourists will be entertained in the ski huts where the village´s night life welcomes them.
