The Night Slalom in Schladming 2008

It’s that time again: the legendary men’s world cup night slalom will take place at the Planai’s home run. Over one million watts will light the night into day, and Schladming will become the center stage. Up to 45,000 fans are expected again this year.

Review of 2007: Raich wins again
In 2007 there was again a briliant atmosphere at the night slalom in Schladming. After two runs Benjamin Raich celebrated his fourth victory in Schladming. Second was Jens Byggmark who won the two slaloms just a few days before in Kitzbuehel. Third place went to Mario Matt from Austria.

The World Cup town Schladming
The beautiful mountain town is once more the centre of World Cup activity. With nearly thirty World Cup races, US Pro-Tour races, the alpine skiing world championships 1982 and the Special Olympics, Schladming has made a name for itself in the international skiing world.

Lovely slopes for beginners, and world champions
Since the winter of 1998/99 a direct link exists between the four skiing hills: Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm. 51 slopes stretching over a total of 115 kilometres and 50 cable-cars are at the visitor’s disposal. Since the 2001/02 winter season, the skiing permit is not only valid for the sport region in Schladming, but also for the Sport-World Amadé, Gastein, Hochkönig and the Großarl valley. That means 800km of slopes and 260 lifts in all.

About Schladming
With a population of 5,000, Schladming lies, embedded in a picturesque, alpine landscape, 750 metres above sea level in the Dachstein-Tauern region, in the Steiermark. The mountain town, with it’s stirring history, is still characterized by it’s once flourishing mining industry. The 3,000m high cliffs of the Dachsteinstock lie to the north. Southwards, the romantic Schladminger Tauern, with their clear streams, waterfalls, mountain lakes and meadows are to be found. Whether holiday guest or world champion, the Planai is a challenge for everybody and offers, with numerous huts, an enjoyable experience for all.
