Ofterschwang 2006 in Retrospect
In 2006, Ofterschwang was the final testing ground for the Olympic Winter Games in Torino. Here Maria-Jose Rienda won both GS competitions, one replaced the cancelled race in Maribor. In the second GS, she shared the top spot with Swedens Anja Pärson. In Slalom, Janica Kostelic had her triumph. With her win she made the 'Grand Slam', winning in all five disciplines within one season. The last athlete to achieve this was Petra Kronberger (AUT) in the 1990/91 season.

In the Heart of Allgaeu
With a population of 1,850, the quaint location lies in the midst of the Allgaeu. The area enjoys a scenic view of mountains that are close to 3,000 meters, such as the Ofterschwanger Horn, the Riedberger Horn and the Dreifahnenkopf. The community is made up of the following districts: Bettenried, Hüttenberg, Muderbolz, Schweineberg, Oberzollbrücke, Sigishofen, Sigiswang, Tiefenberg, Westerhofen and Wielenberg. Due to its pristine natural environment, the location is a favorite getaway not only in the winter but also in the summer.
Tradition Is Important
A special attraction for nature-lovers is the virtually untouched "Tiefenberger Moos". The bog can be explored on a ride or by foot. Tradition is well-respected in Allgaeu. Visitors can join along in the dance around the maypole on May 1 or celebrate the cattle drive firsthand in September.
Slopes Ofterschwang boasts the longest snow machine in Germany, making the Ofterschwanger Horn – with a course 8 km long – a ski resort with nearly a 100% guarantee of snow. Veterans are challenged on the "Jägerabfahrt", snowboarders enjoy their own fare and beginners can attend Ofterschwang’s ski school. In the two valley ski resort Ofterschwang-Gunzesried, there are seven lifts and a 30 km slope. There’s also something for cross-country skiers as well: the seven-kilometer-long cross-country ski run through Ofterschwang and Bolsterlang, for example.
